The salad, albeit with a seafood twist (calamari,
rucola, olives, courgettes and tomatoes), is not fresh.
We bought
rucola (a wild type of arugula), firm and dusky winter tomatoes with which to dress our bread, and a very slim, purplish type of asparagus, which I later learned was the tender spring growth of a thorny hedge plant native to the island.
Even the green grocer, in exchange for
rucola, figs, and melons, has brought me Shakespeare to translate for the occasional wedding.

AIt's just another name for rocket, as is
rucola, so if you see either of them in restaurants you know it's rocket you're getting.
It's a toss-up between that and the arugula, or
rucola. These "rocket greens" fill the mouth with peppery freshness, and the components--shaved fennel, an earthy fresh goat cheese and a hint of citrus--make for a revitalizing salad that stimulates the appetite for things to come.
