S Doradus

(dŏ-ray -dŭs, -rah -) An extremely luminous supergiant located in NGC 1910, a brilliant cluster of giant and supergiant stars lying in the Large Magellanic Cloud. S Dor is an irregular variable ranging in brightness between 9th and 11th magnitude. As with P Cygni, the light variations are connected with sporadic ejections of material, resulting in a greatly enhanced mass outflow, and a slowly expanding cool shell of dust.
