SWAS

Abbrev. for Submillimeter Wave Astronomy Satellite. A Small Explorer payload consisting of a 1-meter class telescope feeding two heterodyne detectors. Launched in 1997, SWAS conducted a survey of galactic molecular clouds at high spectral resolution by studying submillimeter emission from H2 O, O2, C, and 13CO.
