Sanford, Edward Terry

(1865–1930) Supreme Court justice; born in Knoxville, Tenn. He was a U.S. assistant district attorney general (1907–08) and a U.S. district judge (1908–23) before President Harding named him to the U.S. Supreme Court (1923–30).
