We made four more stops on the way home - Tallinn, Gdynia, Karlskrona and
Sassnitz, taking us to Estonia, Poland, Sweden and Germany respectively - before heading onto the 61-mile-long Kiel Canal and back home.
Maiden port calls include Alanya, Turkey; Alcudia (Mallorca), Spain; Galway and Killybegs, Ireland; Hydra and Igoumenitsa, Greece; and
Sassnitz, Germany.
As of the beginning of 2010, the number of DFDS departures between Klaipeda and
Sassnitz, on the northern German island of Ruegen, was increased from one to two weekly.
Next is St Petersburg, then the elegant medieval city of Gydnia in Poland,

DAY 11 Docking in
Sassnitz, on Germany's largest island Rugen, we decide it's time for an adventure and head off on a 50-minute train ride to the mainland to Stralsund, a UNESCO heritage site which turns out to be a bit like Tallinn before they smartened it all up.
