Schufeldt, Robert Wilson
(1822–95) naval officer; born in Red Hook, N.Y. He was a Union naval commander in the Civil War and chief of the Bureau of Equipment and Recruiting (1875–78). He negotiated and signed a treaty with Korea (1882), the "Hermit Kingdom's" first treaty with any western nation.
