Sectional Cooler

The following article is from The Great Soviet Encyclopedia (1979). It might be outdated or ideologically biased.

Cooler, Sectional

a cooled space enclosed by modular insulated panels. Sectional coolers are used for the cooling and short-term storage of perishable foods. As a rule, a sectional cooler is installed in the utility room of a store or a food service enterprise and contains shelves and racks for the storage of products. The cooling is carried out by a small refrigerating machine with separate or built-in refrigerating units.

Depending on the temperature in the cooled space, sectional coolers may be medium-low-temperature (0–8°C) or low-temperature coolers. In low-temperature sectional coolers, the temperature may be not higher than –13°C or not higher than –18°C. The volume of the cooled space in Soviet sectional coolers ranges from 6 to 18 cum.
