Serakhs is located in the valley of the Tedzhen River, 118 km southeast of the Tedzhen railroad station (on the Krasno-vodsk-Mary line). Old Serakhs is the site of the 11th-century Abul’-Fazla Mausoleum (restored 1425), an important monument of medieval Turkmen architecture. The mausoleum, which is often called the Serakhs-baba, has a double sphaeroconical dome, which rests on top of a massive iwan (audience hall) that is square in plan.
