ERDC MSRC's SGI Origin 3800 machine, the largest shared-memory system in the SGI Origin 3000 server series, is the first single-system image of its kind in the Department of Defense (DoD) High-Performance Computing Modernization Program.
However, the cells cooperate to present the appearance of a single operating system to users and applications (a single-system image), and cooperate to share memory and other resources as required for performance.
The Origin system with SGI(R) NUMAflex(TM) shared memory architecture, expandable to more than 1,000 processors in a single-system image, is critical since it allows customers to scale the solution to suit the size of their power grid.
The delivery of this 256-processor, single-system image SGI Origin 3800 server is a significant milestone for SGI.
