Sniatyn

 

a city (since 1939) and administrative center of Sniatyn Raion, Ivano-Frankovsk Oblast, Ukrainian SSR. Snia-tyn is located on the Prut River, 5 km from the Sniatyn railroad station on the Kolomyia-Luzhany line and 107 km southeast of Ivano-Frankovsk. It has a cheese plant, a brickyard, an industrial combine, and a food-processing combine. It also has an agricultural technicum and a cultural and educational school. A literary memorial museum to M. Cheremshina, who was born in Sniatyn, was founded in the city in 1949. Sniatyn has been known since the 12th century. [23–1902–]
