Sosnogorsk

 

(until 1957, Izhma), a city in the Komi ASSR, under the jurisdiction of the Ukhta city soviet. Situated on the Izhma River, a tributary of the Pechora River. Railroad station on the Kotlas-Vorkuta line. Population, 27,000 (1975). Sosnogorsk has enterprises servicing the railroad industry and enterprises for the production of industrial carbon black and wood products.

Finnish minerals processing technology provider Outotec Oyj (formerly Outokumpu Technology) said on Wednesday (27 June) that it has signed an agreement with ZAO Komi Aluminium on the design and delivery of two alumina calciners for the Sosnogorsk Alumina Refinery in the Republic of Komi, Russia.
The company intends to expand its network in the region next year, to cover Ukhta, Syktyvkar and Sosnogorsk. It has also unveiled plans to introduce base stations in Vorkuta, Usinsk and Pechora in the Komi Republic region.
The EBRD money would also help fund appraisal studies for the alumina and aluminium plants, to be built near the town of Sosnogorsk. The SUAL companies concerned are OAO Bauxite Timana and ZAO Komi Aluminium.
