Location:3 miles east of Carlyle on Route 50, along the southeast side of Carlyle Lake (across the lake from Eldon Hazlet State Park; see separate entry).
Facilities:33 Class C tent or trailer campsites (now electrical hookups or showers), 5 day-use picnic areas, boat ramp, restrooms, nature trails (closed for use as 3-D archery ranges several times a year).
Activities:Camping, boating, sailing, fishing, hiking, wildlife viewing (especially white-tailed deer).
Special Features:Because of the size of Lake Carlyle (it is the largest manmade reservoir in Illinois), there is no horsepower limit on boat motors, making the 26,000-acre lake a popular weekend destination for boaters. Sailboats are welcome here as well.
