Spencer Gulf

a gulf of the Indian Ocean, situated off southern Australia, between the peninsulas of Eyre and York. The shoreline is primarily low-lying and slightly indented. The gulf, which juts 330 km into the mainland and is approximately 80 km wide at the entrance, is up to 64 m deep. Tides are irregular and diurnal; the water level rises by 3.6 m at high tide. Port Pirie is the chief port. The gulf was named after the English minister of the navy G. J. Spencer.
