The agency is engaging with the military Service engineering activities to provide validated 3D Portable Data File (PDF) and
Standard for the Exchange of Product Model Data (STEP) files that meet all of the procurement legal requirements for fair and open competition.
The EDMD data model borrows from STEP (
Standard for the Exchange of Product model data), an international standard, specifically, Application Protocol (AP) 214 "Core Data Model for Automotive Mechanical Design Processes" and AP 210 "Electronic Assembly, Interconnection, and Packaging Design." In addition, a goal of the project group was to incorporate the concepts and content of IDF 3.0 in the initial data model.
Throughout the self-contained system, starting with construction and ending with manufacturing and assembling, the central information carrier is the ISO standard STEP (
standard for the exchange of product model data) which allows for a complete description of the final product.
STEP NC is an extension to STEP, the
STandard for the Exchange of Product model data. STEP is the international standard that specifies a neutral data format for digital information about a product.
STEP (
Standard for the Exchange of Product Model Data) interfaces have been actively implemented to access layout and design systems for board and harness design.
The prevalent international data-exchange standard is the ISO 10303,
Standard for the Exchange of Product Model Data, or STER The parts of STEP implemented in software systems are called application protocols (APs).
Second, many CAD translations, such as those using the
STandard for the Exchange of Product model data (STEP), only exchange product geometry; other design data is lost.
Also improved in this version is CAD interoperability via support of the
standard for the exchange of product model data (STEP) for surface and multibody solids.
One other less costly solution is to use neutral standards, like the
Standard for the Exchange of Product model data (STEP) standards, Baker says.
