On the southwestern border of KS, southwest of Garden City; created Mar 6, 1873, later abolished and made part of Hamilton County; in 1887 Stanton County was reorganized from Hamilton County. Name Origin: For Edwin McMasters Stanton (1814-69), U.S. Attorney General (1860-61) and U.S. Secretary of War under Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Johnson (1862-68)
