Stewart, George F.
(1908–82) food scientist; born in Arizona. Before joining the faculty at the University of California: Davis in 1951, he was a research chemist in the food industry and a faculty member at Iowa State University. In 1959 he was named chair of the combined food science and dairy industry departments at Davis; from 1965 to 1970 he was the first director of the Food Protection and Toxicology Center at Davis. He conducted crucial research in poultry preservation and dehydrated egg products. A prolific writer, he coedited with Emil M. Mrak, Advances in Food Research.
