Somehow, with hindsight, I don't think our longer, stronger limbs brought about such a vastly different attitude for surely it was the fact that we were walking together with 200-300 other children, plus our teachers, as part of the Grangetown Mission's annual
Sunday School day trip.
In those days, holidays were non-existent - a
Sunday school day trip was all most of us had to look forward to.
Going back to my
Sunday school days, I recall learning a scripture which was "What shall it profit a man if he gained the whole world and lose his own soul or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?" (Mark 18, v 36-37).
Maintaining a Sunday school is expensive, labour intensive, and most importantly it's not changing the decades-long pattern of children leaving the church when their
