Established: 1988.
Location:15 miles northeast of Bangor, Maine.
Facilities:Visitor contact station, hiking trails.
Activities:Boating, canoeing, fishing, hunting, educational programs.
Special Features:Refuge protects habitat used by many species of birds, as well as rare species such as the Tomah Mayfly and the Showy Lady's Slipper.
Habitats: 11,200 acres of wet meadows, shrub thickets, cedar swamps, red and silver maple floodplain forests and open freshwater streams.
Access: Open from dawn to dusk.
Wild life: Frogs, toads, salamanders, neotropical land birds, grassland-nesting birds, marsh birds and American woodcock.
