Tamagotchi

Meaning "egg watch" in Japanese, a Tamagotchi is a handheld electronic pet from toy maker Bandai Co., Ltd. Introduced in 1996 and looking more like a jewelry pendant than a pet, more than 80 million Tamagotchis have been sold worldwide. The pet cycles through life stages and even dies of old age or poor care, all of which is displayed on screen. Many versions of Tamagotchis have been released over the years, and it has been added to gaming platforms as well.

The Tamagotchi Pet
After activating, an egg wiggles and hatches into a tiny pet. With many different versions, the Tamagotchi's health relies on the owner's attentiveness.
