Established: Designated on March 5, 1946. Owned by Congregation Shearith Israel, New York City. The National Park Service lends technical assistance for preservation of the building under a cooperative agreement with two congregations (Shearith Israel and Jeshuat Israel).
Location:In Newport, Rhode Island.

Special Features:Dedicated in 1762, it is the oldest synagogue in the United States and the only one that survives from the colonial era. Designed by noted colonial architect Peter Harrison, the synagogue is the present-day place of worship of Congregation Jeshuat Israel.
