A family of Tertiary and extant echinoderms of the order Temnopleuroida where the branchial slits are deep and the test tends to be absent.

6) indicates that the ADL as we have defined it is not unique to tytechinids (Toxopneustidae).
The Stirodonta is the sister taxon to the superorder Camarodonta, which includes the orders Temnopleuroida and Echinoida, the latter of which includes families Toxopneustidae, Strongylocentrotidae, Echinometridae, Echinidae, and Parechinidae.
