During absorption spectroscopy, the amount of radiant energy transmitted by the solution under analysis.
(electromagnetism)
The radiant power transmitted by a body divided by the total radiant power incident upon the body. Also known as transmission.

Transmittance

The ratio of the total radiant or luminous flux transmitted by a transparent object to the incident flux, usually given for normal incidence.

When radiant flux is incident on a medium, the ratio of the flux which emerges from the medium to the flux which is incident upon it.
