Tulsa

 

a city in the USA, in the state of Oklahoma, on the Arkansas River. Population, 331,800; 477,000 including the suburbs (1970). The city is a highway junction. It is the industrial and financial center of a region rich in oil and natural gas. Tulsa is an oil and gas pipeline junction, and much of the city’s industry is related to the production of oil and gas, including the manufacture of oil-well equipment. There is also a radio-electronic and an aerospace industry, as well as production of chemicals and textiles. The number of those employed in the processing and refining industry was 47,000 in 1973. Tulsa has a university.
