Uchkurgan

 

a city (since 1969) under oblast jurisdiction and the administrative center of Uchkurgan Raion, Namangan Oblast, Uzbek SSR. Uchkurgan is located on the Naryn River in the Syr Darya Basin. The city has a railroad station on the Kokand-Namangan-Andizhan line; a 33-km spur runs from Uchkurgan to Tash-Kumyr. Industry includes a vegetable-oil extraction plant, a cotton-ginning plant, a brickyard, and a brewery for the production of beer and nonalcoholic beverages. The city has a technicum that prepares students for careers in economic planning and management.
