United Brands Company
a food monopoly in the USA. The United Brands Company was formed in 1970 as a result of the merger of the United Fruit Company and the AMK Corporation. In 1976 its sales volume totaled $2.3 billion, of which more than 65 percent was from the sale of meat products and approximately 30 percent was from the sale of bananas; the net profit in the same year was $16.3 million, and the monopoly’s employees numbered 50,000.
