The following article is from The Great Soviet Encyclopedia (1979). It might be outdated or ideologically biased.

Vernier Rocket

a rocket engine for controlling the flight of a rocket according to a prescribed program. A rocket is usually provided with two or more such engines, which are of low power. A lateral moment is created by turning a vernier rocket installation. When the vernier rockets are mounted in a fixed position, a lateral moment is obtained by producing unequal thrusts, that is, a thrust differential, in the rockets.
