Vibration Roller
The following article is from The Great Soviet Encyclopedia (1979). It might be outdated or ideologically biased.
Vibration Roller
a road roller one of whose rollers vibrates. There are trailer rollers—one- and two-section rollers with smooth, cam, and mesh rollers—and self-powered rollers—with one, two, or three smooth rollers. The most common vibration rollers are single-section trailer rollers with a mechanism for centrifugal vibration from an internal combustion engine and self-powered double-roller devices with a mechanical actuator for vibration and rolling. A vibration roller is far more effective than a conventional roller of the same weight for packing down ground and road cover.
