Vytegra

a city, the administrative center of Vytegra Raion, Vologda Oblast, RSFSR. A landing 15 km from Lake Onega, on the route of the Volga-Baltic Waterway, 198 km east of the Lodeinoe Pole railroad station (on the VolkhovPetrozavodsk line). A tractor and motor-vehicle repair enterprise, a fish cannery, and a dairy are located here. There are also a forestry and timber industry technicum and a museum of local lore. Vytegra has been a city since 1773.

Vytegra

a river in Vologda Oblast, RSFSR. It flows out of Lake Matkozero and then through the broad lowlands between the Andoma Hills and the Megra Hills and into Lake Onega. Length, 64 km; area of basin, 1,670 sq km. The river is regulated by numerous locks and makes up an important part of the Volga-Baltic Waterway. Its average monthly flow varies from 11 to 23 cu m per sec. Water also enters the river from Lake Kovzha.
