On southeastern border of WI, southwest of Milwaukee; organized Dec 7, 1836 (prior to statehood) from a territorial county. Name Origin: For Col. Reuben Hyde Walworth (1788-1867), officer in the War of 1812, jurist, and U.S. representative from NY (1821-23); unconfirmed nominee to the U.S. Supreme Court (1844)
