To avoid repeating this mistake, Intel, Microsoft, Cisco Systems, Compaq Computer and more than 60 other vendors got together last year to form a standards body known as the Web-Based Enterprise Management (WBEM) group.
WBEM stands for the Web-Based Enterprise Management specification, which offers a set of common architectures to manage enterprise-computing environments.
Attendees also viewed the first implementation of Internet Web-Based Enterprise Management (WEBM), which managed heterogeneous storage systems spanning two continents.
