Weigel, Gustave A.

(1906–64) Catholic priest, theologian; born in Buffalo, N.Y. A Jesuit, he was a theology professor in Chile (1937–48) and at a Jesuit seminary in Maryland (from 1949). He was a pioneering advocate of ecumenism and played a key role as interpreter and liaison for non-Catholics at the Second Vatican Council.
