White Pines Forest State Park
Location:12 miles north of Dixon, in the heart of Rock River Valley.
Facilities:103 Class B/S campsites, 2 youth group campgrounds (6 @di sites), lodge
with 16 cabins (25 guest rooms total), restaurant, lounge, gift shop,
picnic areas, shelters, trails (é).
Activities:Camping, hiking, cross-country skiing.
Special Features:Forming the southern boundary of the park is the old Chicago-Iowa
Trail, for years the principal route east and west across the northern
part of the state. The park is in Black Hawk country and is rich in
American Indian history. Among the park's most interesting features are
the concrete fords that span its creeks, allowing visitors to literally
drive through the flowing streams.
