Widmanstätten figures

(vid -măn-shtet-ĕn) Patterns of nickel-rich and nickel-poor bands crossing one another in two, three, or four directions that are revealed when polished surfaces of most iron meteorites are etched. They are lamellar intergrowths of kamacite, taenite, and plessite.
