William T Councilman

Councilman, William T. (Thomas)

(1854–1933) pathologist; born in Pikesville, Md. He was affiliated with Johns Hopkins (1885–92), becoming resident pathologist, and he then became a professor of pathology at Harvard Medical School (1892–1921). He confirmed the discovery of and described Plasmodium malariae (1893–94), the sporozoan parasite that causes malaria, and investigated amoebic dysentery.
