Yokkaichi

 

a city and port in Japan, on Ise Bay in Mie Prefecture in the south of the island of Honshu. Population, 229, 300 (1970). It is one of the leading Japanese centers of oil refining and the petrochemical industry. There is a huge ethylene combine with an annual output of about 300, 000 tons. Other industries are cotton cloth, porcelain and ceramics, and glass products. Nonferrous metallurgy (a copper smelting plant) and electric machine construction are also important. There is a steam power plant with a capacity of 660, 000 kilowatts. The city is also a seaside health resort.
