The Zhu Jiang River (Pearl River) Delta Area refers to the cities of Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Jiangmen, Zhaoqing and Huizhou.
Interbrew spokesman Corneel Maes confirmed the group had signed a memorandum of understanding with Zhu Jiang, in which the Chinese company offered Interbrew, the world's second-largest brewery, the opportunity to promote its listing in 2003 and take a stake.
'This could result in Interbrew taking up to 25 per cent in the Zhu Jiang Joint Stock Company, subject to final agreement on price and related conditions,' Interbrew said in a statement.
