ad-supported software

Software that is paid for by advertisers. Pure ad-supported applications and websites always generate ads. In contrast, freemium products that display ads will stop the advertising when the user pays a fee. See freemium, shareware, adserver and Internet advertising.


Placing the Ads
Conducent's earlier FlexActive software provided the conduit between the source of the ads and their placement in a developer's application. FlexActive could also cache the ads so they could be rotated when the user was offline. (Screenshot courtesy of Conducent, Inc.)
