aerodrome advisory service

aerodrome advisory service (AAS)

A service provided by flight service stations (FSSs) or the military at aerodromes not serviced by an operating control tower. This service consists of providing information to arriving and departing aircraft concerning wind direction and speed, preferred runway, altimeter setting, pertinent known aircraft, pertinent known field conditions, aerodrome taxi routes and traffic patterns, and authorized instrument approach procedures. This information is advisory and does not constitute an air traffic control (ATC) clearance.
