In both glomerular and aglomerular marine teleosts, [Mg.sub.2+], S[O.sub.4.sup.2-], and NaCl are secreted directly into the proximal tubules with water following passively (Schmidt-Nielsen and Renfro, 1975; Cliff and Beyenbach, 1992; Beyenbach, 2004), as explained above.
