allosteric effector
[¦a·lə¦stir·ik ə′fek·tər] (biochemistry)
A small molecule that reacts either with a nonbinding site of an enzyme molecule, or with a protein molecule, and causes a change in the function of the molecule. Also known as allosteric modulator.
