The prosthetic mesh is used in cases of extreme
amyotrophy [4] by placing it on the surface of the muscle, fixing it in the peripheral diaphragmatic inserts, and preventing recurrence at the ends of the plication; some authors are reluctant to use it due to the possibility of infection and increased cost of surgery, although these criteria are relative, if properly managed.
Hirayama Disease (HD), also known as juvenile muscular atrophy or monomelic
amyotrophy, was reported first by Hirayama et al.
Yun et al., "Monomelic
amyotrophy (Hirayama disease) with upper motor neuron signs: a case report," Annals of Rehabilitation Medicine, vol.
The neurologic examination indicated severe proximal predominant muscles weakness in four limbs causing the patient's dependence on a wheelchair, a severe kyphoscoliosis with truncal muscle weakness, contracture of knee and ankles articulations, and
amyotrophy in four limbs.
Neuralgic
amyotrophy; the shoulder-girdle syndrome.
Four patients (3 men and 1 woman, patients 7-10) exhibited PTS, also known as neuralgic
amyotrophy. Their median age was 55.5 years (range 51-56 years).
Wiederhold et al., "Axonopathy and
amyotrophy in mice transgenic for human four-repeat tau protein," Acta Neuropathologica, vol.
Extraintestinal manifestations neuralgic
amyotrophy [41], peripheral neuropathies, encephalitis [32, 42], encephalopathy [32, 43], Parsonage-Turner syndrome [42], paroxysmal myopathy, and bilateral pyramidal syndromes are known to occur [1].
This discovery will make it possible to expand the production process for these neurons, leading to more rapid progress in understanding diseases of the motor system, such as infantile spinal
amyotrophy or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, or Lou Gehrig's disease).
In the medium term, the approach should contribute to the development of treatments for paralytic diseases such as infantile spinal muscular
amyotrophy or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
In examination, the patient showed global development delay,
amyotrophy, and distended abdomen.
