anomalous Zeeman effect
[ə′näm·ə·ləs ′zā‚män i‚fekt] (spectroscopy)
A type of splitting of spectral lines of a light source in a magnetic field which occurs for any line arising from a combination of terms of multiplicity greater than one; due to a nonclassical magnetic behavior of the electron spin.
