anoxia

The failure of oxygen to gain access to, or to be utilized by, the body tissues.

anoxia

A condition caused by a total lack of oxygen in the blood or tissues of the body. This condition is preceded by hypoxia.

Anoxic anoxia was deemed to be the mechanism for the loss of consciousness in these patients.

These intervals of black shale deposition are often referred to as Oceanic Anoxic Events (OAEs) 1a and 2, respectively.
