2. Botany any subsidiary part of a plant, such as a branch or leaf

(naval architecture)
Any fitting installed outside the underwater hull proper, such as a rudder, shaft, shaft strut, and bilge keel.
(zoology)
Any jointed, peripheral extension, especially limbs, of arthropod and vertebrate bodies.
