The semipermanent, semicontinuous front between the deep, cold arctic air and the shallower, basically less cold polar air of northern latitudes.

The surface of discontinuity between very cold air flowing directly from the arctic region and another less cold air mass. It is the boundary between the arctic and polar air masses mainly near the Arctic Circle.
