Arak

 

a city in northwestern Iran. Population, 90,000 (1975). Arak is a transportation center. It is also the center of an agricultural region that produces sugar beets and grains. Industry includes food processing (sugar, liqueurs, and vodka) and the production of textiles and carpets. Arak has a machine-building plant (built in cooperation with the USSR) and an aluminum plant.
