Takayasu
arteritis is an idiopathic inflammatory vascular disorder that may involve the thoraco-abdominal aorta and its branches.

In a large study of almost 40, 000 adult patients with polymyalgia rheumatica or giant cell
arteritis in England, researchers found higher absolute risks of infection when patients were taking oral steroids than when they were not taking them.
Noninvasive imaging in the diagnosis and management of Takayasu's
arteritis. Ann Rheum Dis 2004; 63: 995-1000.
Takayasu's
arteritis (TA) is a rare disease characterized by a focal stenotic process involving the aorta and the proximal segments of its main branches.
All of the patients had one or more systemic diseases: 37 patients had systemic arterial hypertension, 24 patients had DM, 30 patients had HLP, 24 patients had cardiovascular disease, 13 patients had cerebrovascular disease, and one 15-year-old female had Takayasu
arteritis. Thirty-five patients suffered from two or more than two systemic diseases.
Giant cell
arteritis (GCA) is a common form of primary
arteritis in patients over 50 years, in which supraaortal arteries are predominantly affected [1, 2].
Here, we present a very unusual type of IVLBCL with unilateral visual loss and proptosis, thus mimicking temporal
arteritis. The lymphoma also involved the retroperitoneal lymph nodes which made the case very challenging because the disorder is known to present typically in extranodal sites.
This constellation of anatomic abnormalities and symptoms is generally attributed to either a developmental/congenital disorder or to inflammatory vasculitis such as Takayasu's
arteritis (TAK).

The cost watchdog's ruling means it is unlikely that patients with giant cell
arteritis will have access to the treatment any time soon.
