asymmetric compression

asymmetric compression

A data compression technique that takes more processing time to compress than it does to decompress the data. In contrast, asymmetric compression designed for backup may take less time to compress than decompress, because files are constantly being compressed but rarely decompressed. Contrast with symmetric compression.
