automatic dry standpipe system
A stand-pipe system in which all piping is either filled with compressed air or air at atmospheric pressure; the water enters the system through a control valve that is actuated either automatically by a reduction of air pressure within the system or by the manual activation of a remote control located at each fire-hose station.
