basal metabolic rate
[′bā·səl med·ə′bäl·ik ′rāt] (physiology)
The amount of energy utilized per unit time under conditions of basal metabolism; expressed as calories per square meter of body surface or per kilogram of body weight per hour. Abbreviated BMR.
